Robert leaves for Dallas to stay overnight and head to basic training in the early a.m. 6 months without this kid...It will be very good for him and I thought it might be easier (he is SO excited, to be taking care of his new family and going to mechanic training) but it's not. It just really hit me. :-(

These are the days when it is hardest to trust God. Blessings of peace to you Karen and to your family.

I knew you would understand, Bob.

Karen, I went through it from the other end (Navy basic training in Orlando for 8 weeks, followed by 6 weeks of technical school training in Meridian, Mississippi -- way back in 1987). It's tough from both ends; even though I knew I was doing something exciting, I still wanted family around. As long as he knows that you and your love are still there for him, it will make it easier at his end -- and the prayers and love you're sending will strengthen you, too.

I hope that you can find peace in the midst of having to let go. What is it about our nature that so longs to hold on and make it work out our way. I just pray that you'll find supernatural comfort and peace about everything that's happening. Thanks for sharing. Bless you!

Thank you all for your support...it means so much. Blogland is amazing.
Robert came over to say goodbye...I think he was avoiding doing so.
I am excited for his future, though. He is incredibly talented mechanically and if the Army takes advantage of this, both will win.

This is the toughest part of growing older, eh? Your kids go out and somehow get a life of their own.

His peace.

It was '69 when I went off to join the RAF. The first 6 weeks of basic training, ie: learning to be in the military, were not so good but once I got into my job training it was ok. But as it has already been said, it is tough on both sides.

I'm sure you will keep us updated so that we can continue to pray into the situation.

And thanks for watching my slide show - so blessed that you were blessed! Your comment came at just the right time as I was feeling just a bit down - Praise God!

I'm so sorry.

The army was good for me, but bad for my parents. I decided to go, and 2 weeks later I had raised my hand. A month after that I was gone. (To join the army, and be a mechanic.) They never said much, but I know it was a trial.

I was not ready for it. It liked to crushed me. But, I came out on the other side. There's a lot to be learned from being stretched that way, and I pray it will do him good.

I'll pray the same for you. ;-)

Lord bless you all.

Thanks, CP...I think it will be good for him. He's always had problem with authority...unless he is being paid. :-O But he craves routine and such..you came out of it okay! :-)
