That ol' devil....

I'm sitting having my coffee, listening to the dog attack her food-filled Kong, and the sound of a gentle rain from my sound machine...and all of these negative thoughts start to come into my head.
Now, where did those come from?
The Lord made us. We are not perfect, but He is. He gave us emotions and feelings which are awesome...but that also open us up to attack from satan. (I never capitalize that smarmy thing's name). satan delights in helping us with our humble negative talk. Humility is good...negative talk is bad.
By the end of my coffee, I had talked myself off that ledge and resolved to imagine shooting an arrow at satan everytime a negative thought about my life comes into play...easy to say..but I'm willing to give it a try. I'd rather be a reflection of Jesus than of the enemy. It's going to be quite a battle. Join me?

Satan's an interesting character. He knows he's going to lose. It's written in God's handwriting. Read Job: Satan had to come to God and ask before he could do anything.

I tried to read Peretti's "This Present Darkness," but didn't get very far. His demon scenes are all full of smoke and the smell of sulphur. Baloney. If that were how Satan works we'd all be in great shape: smell sulphur, you know to leave.

He's much more subtle. Takes all the normal things of life and twists them just a little to make them lies. Hints, innuendo, suggestions, and in our busy lives it's easy for us to be sucked in little by little.

As long as you hold God's hand you have plenty of light to see by. It's when i drift away through fear, or being busy, or whatever, that I start slipping a little bit into a darkness that gathers so slowly that I don't detect it. Fortunately, God expects this, and is patient, and I learn to be more sensitive so I can turn my steps earlier.

God will never leave us nor forsake us. Satan is dead meat. Dangerous, yes, but dead meat.

Larry, yeah, I read "This Present Darkness." Agree with you. I do like his books though, for a good suspense read...the good guys always win.
This from Proverbs 3:25-26 came to me during a pretty big time of fear: "Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it comes. For the Lord will be your confidence, and will keep your foot from being taken." Good words when the enemy strikes.
