Stuff we miss. . .

AOL had a list of stuff "we" miss:

Grape NeHi Soda
House and Garden Mag
Use of vowels (as in texting-my 17 year old refuses to "text-speak")
Lard in pastry
Howard Johnson's (like it used to be)
Vent windows (in cars)
Screaming yellow zonkers
Train travel
New Potter books
Chromed metal on cars
Gelatin salad
Drive-in theaters
Gas attendants
MILKshakes
vinyl records
McD's fried pies
cursive writing
full size spare tire
day games during baseball playoffs
phone booths
pleasurable air travel
Hydrox cookies
Easy to open packaging
In-store lunch counters
The Far Side

I thought about it. I'm not sure I miss "stuff" so much. I miss:

Kids playing outside in summer
Only 3-5 channels on T.V.
Neighborhood BBQs
Everything shutting down on Sundays
Clothes hung on a clothesline
No privacy fences
Grandparents' house on Sunday
Farms
New school supplies' smell (and you kept your own!)

Got any to add?

a far less pronounced pursuit of looking perfect

more genuine personal interaction

All In The Family (especially, Edith)

listening to "adults" talk about the old days

riding bikes all over God's creation & not worrying about the loonies

wanting to listen to the radio

& sometimes like Seger - "wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then." :-)

+ crabbing with my father

+ A&W Drive-In Restaurants ... much better than Sonic

+ church picnics.. races and games included

+ the ocean and the beach

+ ditto - riding bikes all over God's creation & not worrying about the loonies

+ fresh seafood.. especially cod from that special NYC take-out place

+ fresh bread being baked at our neighborhood Italian bakery

+ NYC pizza.. now that is something I miss!

Yep, I'm with Bob. We used to get a gallon of A & W Root Beer and half a dozen chili dogs for a couple bucks. They would run the special occasionally back in Nebraska. What a delicious, unhealthy gut bomb!

Karen, I get almost all of those things here. Maybe you should come see me!

Come to think of it, I get most of Tim's and Bob's, too. New Hampshire must be near to perfect. :)

But I still miss Texas. Silly me.
