Damp parades and all that. . .

Congratulations to President-elect Barack Obama. Your people ran a significant and successful campaign. I will be praying for your safety and wisdom, and your lovely family, every single day. There are calls all over blogdom for prayer and support for our new president. Calls to refrain from speaking ill of him; to believe the best of him. I think that's great.
Did we do the same for President Bush? No. We didn't. Period. Well, except for the crazy, right-winged, religious nut-cases, that is.
The media has changed drastically in the last few decades. I don't know where I'd be had I continued in journalism. There is no objectivity in reporting. Chris Matthews actually came out and said his job was to make Obama a success in the next 4 years. Is that whether O merits that success? Or will we be fed only the successes? Will the Fairness Doctrine, if put through, apply to mainstream media also? At least conservative talk radio is readily identifiable. Mainstream media is adept at its deception.
Back to my prior point: I am ashamed of our country. We present a very poor image to the rest of the world. We blame President Bush for this image, but that's a big fat lie. When a leader disappoints us we start in on him or her and it never stops. The people we elect are bashed and battered and left in the gutter. Heck, if we don't want them elected we're allowed to make continual SNL parodies till some of us want to vomit. I noticed the self-righteous Obama camp never asked SNL to stop mocking Sarah Palin. And, where was the ACLU when Joe Wurzelbacher's privacy rights were being illegally and immorally violated? I know we're all supposed to be in a state of euphoria over the changing of the guard, but, frankly, I'm very worried.
The majority of us have no idea of how our government works, nor do we take part in any kind of service to our country. It's absolutely shameful.
I wrote President Bush a thank you note...a few times. I heard a woman from Canada ask Mike Huckabee why Americans are so cruel to George Bush. She said Canadians love him. Israel loves him. Why don't we? "He's kept you safe," she said. She's right. We've been safe for the last 7 years. All of my soldiers who come back tell me that they are proud of their work in Iraq. It wasn't just George Bush who took us into Iraq.
This article says what I feel: Treatment of President Bush. When Barack Obama makes his mistakes (and he will, just like Bush and the others, and with the help of other leaders) how will he be treated? Well, probably a little better, thanks to Chris Matthews.
Before we try to bless the new administration, I believe we need to repent over the treatment of the last. What are we teaching our next generations?

Good article. Propaganda sucks. I wish we weren't so susceptible - but you are right, we do have to take some responsibility. I think this is why the Muslim nations that feel ill towards us think that a changing of the guard will make no difference. We are still the same nation. I hope change does come. Can hope and pride in our leader bring that about?

"Can hope and pride in our leader bring that about?"

I think so, Missy.

We can (and should) always hope.

I heard Chris Matthews and was surprised by what he said.. Joe Scarborough and the Morning Joe crew blasted him on it.

I think that we should give Obama a chance.. I liked what Missy said at my place about not being gullible.. I propose we give him a 100 day honeymoon.

I was a staunch Bush supporter for many years.. and maybe a bit too believing.. I voted for him twice. I still like him but do not agree with some of his policies.. one in particular.

In retrospect.. thinking about what you wrote Karen.. I should have been a bit kinder towards him on my blog.

I didn't hear the exact quote from Chris Matthews. And, as a journalist, it's certainly not his job to make Obama successful in his presidency. But, as Americans, it's all of our jobs to make the presidency successful because a successful presidency translates to a successful America.

I was never (ever) a big fan of George W. Bush. And, I think as a public figure, you have to accept some criticism. There's also good natured ribbing (satire and comedians telling jokes) that's thrown at any public figure. But, I do think it's a shame how it seems almost everyone has abandoned Bush and has nothing good to say about him. I think he is a man who tried sincerely to do the best he could for America.

Yes, Brian, we should hope. I think Bush will fare better historically than he does now. I think satire is the American way; however, it has been very one-sided this election season.
The best way to make the America succeed is to get involved.
KB, I don't think I said anything about not giving Obama a chance. I hope and pray he is able to do well. This was about us and our responsibility to our country.

I would love to hear a cease fire of the slams. It didn’t start with Bush because I can remember hearing of Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, I remember the slams on Regan he has gone from one of the worst to the best after death, I remember Bush #1, and Clinton’s life was told all over the TV (Stuff I didn’t want to know). We heard about Bush’s daughters and heard about how horrible he was as a president. We have a long history of slamming our leaders. I often wondered how difficult it was on Kennedy’s family what with his affair being dragged out into public. I know how much it hurts my family and we aren’t in the press. Do you think that Clinton’s daughter wasn’t heart broken? The jokes the press and the looks. It hurts big on a small scale the wife feels stupid and hurt. Trust me I know how it feels and the idea of everyone knowing isn’t easy to take at first.

We forget that Clinton had lowest unemployment rate in modern times, the lowest inflation in 30 years, the highest home ownership in the country's history, dropping crime rates in many places, and reduced welfare rolls. He proposed the first balanced budget in decades and achieved a budget surplus. As part of a plan to celebrate the millennium in 2000, Clinton called for a great national initiative to end racial discrimination.

No we just focus on the fact that he had an affair.

I would love to see the slams go away for all of the right reasons because we need each other. No matter who you voted for we need to stop and pray for our leaders.

Karen,

SOoooo the computer or something glibeded and it posted a bunch of what I was saying. Please remove the extra.

BTW Wow Bob looking good!

Missy said...

Hehe! Milly you really had a point to make. :)

Actually, you did. I think a lot of what Clinton was able to do was spurred by the hope he inspired in people. They carried on because they were not afraid to do so. That does make a big difference.

For some reason, it's not giving me the option to delete any comments. Suggestions?
Milly, I see your point, but please, let's not get into Clinton.

I voted for Bush, and I think he is a good man. He certainly stuck to his guns, but I disagreed with many of his policies. I think he did the best he could with the cards handed to him. I was an Obama supporter this time around, and I hope he can make some positive changes. But the fact is only time will tell!

What exactly did Bush do that you are thankful for? Tell me something other than he's really great at waving the American flag. Consider areas like education, repairing our infrastructure, budget management, the economy, unemployment, illegal immigration, development of alternative energy sources, reining in healthcare costs, global warming, acid rain, etc. Include achievements that benefit all Americans regardless of their religious beliefs as well as the Christian population.

That Barack Obama was elected president is not the most important outcome of the election. What is most important is that a majority of Americans said that we have had our fill of special interest politics. That is the change that must survive with or without Obama. Government for all the People.

karen said...

Joe, there is no way we can have a rational discussion about this. Bush has been blamed for everything under the sun when we have Carter and Clinton to thank for so much of that.
We just don't see things the same, never will, I guess. You'll always be my friend, I hope that's reciprocated.

Joe said...

It is definitely reciprocated, especially after having just had the Country Boy breakfast at Cracker Barrel!

karen said...

Good to know that I have biscuits, meats, eggs, and gravy on my side! :-)

Agreed with everything on this post Karen! Oh, except you while you mentioned that Canadians and Israelis love Bush, you left out the millions of Africans with AIDS were helped (or at least given a sense of hope) because of Bush.

karen said...

You're right. My friends who go there to minister tell me that. There are a few little media stories, but that's been kept quiet, hasn't it?

Even in the most sexually liberated and self-satisfied of nations, many people still yearn to burn more, to feel ready for bedding no matter what the clock says and to desire their partner of 23 years as much as they did when their love was brand new.
The market is saturated with books on how to revive a flagging libido or spice up monotonous sex, and sex therapists say “lack of desire” is one of the most common complaints they hear from patients, particularly women.
