Well she certainly had a good life living with your family. How old was she? I am so sorry, Karen, I know how hard it is to lose a pet. She was one cute kitty - she looks so serious in this photo (she must have been spying).

Thankfully she had a peaceful passing.

Hugs to you.

Thank you ladies.
We don't know how old Harriet was. She came to us already spayed a little over 10 years ago, no one claimed her. I think she was around 13-15. She had some tummy disorder that was never figured out, didn't seem to cause her any pain...but it was surprising she lived so long at around 5-6 pounds. You can see how skinny she was even then in the picture--regular cat collars were too big. She always looked serious like that, but she was sweet! Spying, indeed. She was a fierce protector of our property. Larger kitties feared her.

I am of the opinion that animals know a lot more than we give them credit for. I have lost three friends (dogs) since 2000. It is tough losing one for sure.

thanks, all! I know you love your critters, and have lost some, too.
You're right, Don, they do know more. My son was insistant that she pass at home. We made her comfy with some relaxants, she was stretched out (not huddled in pain) on a cozy pad on his bed. I let my son take responsibility; he listened to his gut, and though it was harder on ME...I think it was easier on her than hauling her to the vet. In fact....our cat Lucy, who never got on with Harriet, paid a visit and rested on the bed with her about 2 hours before she passed. We let the other cats and Gracie see her, and I have to say, it was very touching to see. SO, I learned from all my animals last night.

Miss Shadow dropped her ball on Thumper when she knew. Then laid beside him until he was gone. The plant that he loved to hop past and brush against whenever he was out died shortly after. Living things know a lot.

God bless you and your family.
