Good stuff...

Well, bloodwork is almost back to normal, iron-wise. I've spent the last week hauling a ladder and paint around, doing a home office wall for a residence...a client that I realized I've done work for now for almost 10 years. Freaky.

Anyway, I'm not too out of shape....well, I probably am, but I really didn't get tired getting back into the groove of things. I just didn't feel much like DOING it....plus, she told me she didn't want pink tones in the room, I started the finish on the walls.......then she changed her mind. Cha ching.....but a kind of wasted day.

It's really hot here today.

I've been following a lot of blogs with a "institutional church or no institutional church?" theme. This seems to be a major thing running through Christian minds these days. I'm trying to get through Barna's Revolution but having trouble finding the time. You may have heard of it...it's about how we are the body, yada yada...and people are moving away from the church in a brick, as I call it....

Then, I'm intrigued with the "Da Vinci Code" crap going on. On one hand, I think it's great...people are talking about Jesus....a lot. On the other hand, as a scholarly fellow pointed out last night on a "Cracking the Da Vinci Code" show, that there are a lot of folks in other countries, including this one, who may think that Brown's fictional story is TRUE. Heck, he says in the beginning or somewhere that his information is based on truth. Not true at all.

So, I think that there is a lot of spiritual stuff flying around these days. That's a good thing. Some of it is creating confusion, and that's probably okay, too.

That code thing, sure is bringing Jesus to the front of the media. Yeah!

I've noticed that theme too. In fact the youth pastor of my son's church left to start a "house church".

I heard the MOST BIZARRE thing on the radio today, it was a chuch that is celebrating the DaVinci Code as a religion and today they had some sort of feast to Mary Magedeline and the guy actually sang a song to the tune of "Jingle Bells" that said something about the DaVinci code and Dan Brown...it was so weird.

I wonder if all this current talk about Jesus in the media is really a good thing. Seems to me the Jesus they're talking about isn't much like the Son of God. That's not too surprising, as the last thing the ruler of this world wants anyone to have is an encounter with the real, risen God who made the universe.

One of my co-workers wants me to see "DaVinci Code" so I can tell him what I think. I declined. I don't want to support this nonsense. "Be part of the phenomenon," the billboards say. No, thanks. My co-worker's main interest derives from an enjoyment of seeing the Catholic Church squirm.

Movies like this, and the response in the libraries, just show that we really are sheep looking for a shepherd. One real Shepherd, lots and lots of popular wolves.

Larry, I think it's up to us to address the errors in the novel, and to be informed evangelists when this kind of stuff comes knocking. I've not decided whether to see the movie or not...I didn't read the book, either. I have watched the History channel stuff, though, that debunks the Code.

The "How Stuff Works" Web site's response to this is an article called "How the DaVinci Code Doesn't Work." It's the first time they've done something like that. There's not a lot of detail, but it's interesting.

I have overloaded iron ... if you are lacking I could send you some of mine. I also love the current dialog out in blogdom - validates the rebel in me :)

I too have noticed these threads and just enjoy reading them all. Sometimes though I think I get scared that we are all so far off of what He intended that I worry and what alot of good that does right.....so I have found myself praying more and more for blogs and churches and those hurt by churches and find that in the praying there is less for me to worry about.
As far as the DVCode...I am going to see it and that's about all I can say...I never read the book but figure to be somewhat culturally relevant and not look like an idiot...I can see it.....I look to you and Larry's blogs alot to KEEP ME thinking....thanks b

Yes, Vic (how do I address you? I just can't say Old Vic! Mr. Vic? V? TOV? :-)

It is a great opportunity for discussion and debate, which I really do enjoy...although I really can't blame folks for getting a little hot under the collar...Dan Brown's assertion in the beginning of his book under "Facts" about the Priory of Sion is an out and out lie..It wasn't founded in 1099 or whatever...it was a hoax that began in 1956.

I saw it [the confusion] as a good thing (I know, I know, I am waaaaay behing on reading the blogs I link to). Confusion tends to make people search for answers. Hopefully most search the Word and not other fiction books.
